pairs of pears

i spent the afternoon on the road finishing up the Christmas shopping and now i have mere moments before i pick up the kiddo from daycare.  so here, quickly, are pears!  these were for the Trinity Lutheran annual Christmas Sale. i put 2 in each favor bag for a pair of pears.  ha, clever.  i love the little blush of orange or green from the airbrush, and how the gold pearl dust makes it Christmasy--like, "partridge in a pear tree" pretty.
coming soon, my nondenominational "holiday" cookies, ie snow: if they get them after Christmas, the theme isn't suddenly dated. ha, clever again! till next time, Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice, and i hope the Mayan epoch ended well for all of you.  hugs!

spoiler alert, more cookies

so these are the last 2 in the file, then i have to get more off the camera, and boy-howdy will i be busy this fall, so visit often.  if you're not wowed, you can at least laugh and point. :)
i had a busy week by the time i had a breather to make cookies for a trip to mom's house for a birthday dinner, so i made bananas.  why? i thought of a greeting card i have somewhere in a drawer--a dancing banana peel on the front and inside, "just a little card to cheer you up or **** you off."  it seemed so simple and silly that it fit my allotted time and intended grin.  they're just a moon shape with a little pinch at the ends, then brown sanding sugar over yellow, and 2 quick lines with brown edible marker when dry.
and these were a pin-wheel-star experiment.  i wondered what different lines would look like radiating, and got a kinda snowflake, and kinda flower.  i heard no complaints.  the bigger hits were the little musical note/guitars for rock star Grace, and baseballs and bats for sports star Andrew, detailed with edible markers.  i just love coloring on food.
also it's bake sale season! email me if you think it needs a cookie daydreamer or her wares.  till then... (waving)

how ya like dem apples?

sometimes, for no particular reason, i'll take up my art supplies and paint a picture, or sew a patchwork pillow, or crochet a hat--something to do with my hands while my brain is deep in thought and spinning like a hamster wheel. but my favorite art is cookies, and recently i whipped up another batch to play with. this time, for no particular reason, i made gold apples.

i have red and green pearl dust too--i could have made a variety--but it was such a nice day for yellow. the whole month, in fact. and while they may not be juicy, they are "golden delicious." ;)

farmer's market!

this platter was SO much fun to make! the banana was the moon cookie cutter, the shape pinched at each end; the turnip was a heart and a palm tree spliced together; the lemon was a football shape; the radish was a mini heart and mini oak leaf; the cherries were made from a heart; the chili pepper from a leaf; the grapes from circles and a maple leaf; the orange was a plain circle; the watermelon was a half circle; the cauliflower and lettuce were a metal shape i didnt like and bent into an amorphus round shape; the peach was an apple with an altered bottom; the peas in a pod were circles and the moon again; and the rasberries were mini tombstones. i even gave the new shapes little leaves with a fondant cutter. i made them just for the fun of it, and i gave them to my mom when we visited for her birthday. now i'm all inspired to look at shapes beyond their original intended shape, or to combine shapes to make a new picture. i love looking at cookies as little pictures to color. (i was a coloring book artiste back in the day--i wore my crayons down to nubs.) when i think of the composition of the picture as a coloring book, with fields of color lying next to each other, designing cookies gets a whole lot easier. and a whole lot bigger. i would cut one shape and think of another. ...i think i like the blackberries the best.
